Flashes and Floaters

Chart Illustrating What Causes Floaters and Flashes in an Eye

What are flashes and floaters?

Flashes and floaters are symptoms a patient may experience in the presence of a retinal disease. These symptoms, especially if completely new and persistent, are never normal and require immediate evaluation with an ophthalmologist and/or retina specialist to ensure no vision threatening conditions are present in the eye. Diseases that present with flashes and floaters include but are not limited to retinal tear and detachment, bleeding in the eye from diabetes, inflammation of the eye, or benign age-related changes.

At Beach Cities Retina, we exclusively specialize in examining the part of the eye responsible for these symptoms and are experts in diagnosing and treating the causes of these issues.
